The Great Preservation Hall Jazz Band
17 June 2011
Taking its name from one of New Orleans' most venerable music venues in the heart of the French Quarter, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been touring for almost 50 years, including alongside early 20th-century jazz pioneers such as Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong.
The band's incredible current line-up returns for a very rare UK performance under the direction of Ben Jaffe, the son of co-founders Allan and Sandra Jaffe.
New Orleans has long been known as one of the most remarkable musical cities in the world and is widely considered the birthplace of jazz.
From the musicians in hit TV series Treme to legends born in the city including Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet, music is a lifeblood that flows through the streets and people.
'Preservation Hall. Now that's where you'll find all of the greats.' (Louis Armstrong)
