The Fugs

The last time the Fugs played in London was 42 years ago and now they are back for a long-anticipated return.

With fans ranging from Sonic Youth, Lou Reed, Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson and Jeffrey Lewis, all of whom performed at a recent tribute to the late Fugs' member Tuli Kupferberg, this promises to be a rare chance to see a cult US band responsible for some of the most idiosyncratic music of the 1960s with their Beat generation blend of folk, psychedelia and poetry.

'The Fugs are the only group whose entire recorded output I own. The first track I heard was 'Nothing' in 1966. It was an amazing... They made it clear that anything was possible. There are still certain tracks, like 'River of S**t' and 'Ramses II Is Dead, My Love', which I frequently play to people, because they're so incredible and yet nobody has ever heard them.' (Brian Eno)

'Well nigh indispensible.' (NME)

'The Fugs just beat The Velvet Underground for the mantle of first great underground band.' (The Wire)
