TRICKY

April, 6th 2010

'FOR someone who has been called the "dark prince" of pop and even its "antichrist", Tricky seems to enjoy a fairly mellow existence. "I live out in the country now," he says. "There's deer, raccoon, pheasants . . . lovely pink blossom . . . I can sit there for hours watching it."'

Interview from The Telegraph, 23 June 2001

'ALTHOUGH this one-off appearance by Tricky gave the Royal Festival Hall's Meltdown season one of its most prestigious attractions, it was not an event I approached with a song in my heart. The Bristol-born, New Jersey-based progenitor of the genre known as trip-hop is famous for the paranoia and claustrophobia of his recorded output and for the scariness of his live shows. I braced myself for a gruelling night.'
